Object: steel cage van 1.00 x 0. 80 x 0.70. containing: a perfect living environment!
Popping up everywhere in The Netherlands are new housing estates. Pre-determined suburban locations where the "correct" people live; where it's safe. People with the same lifestyle; a so called gated-community. Close to the American models that have been in existence for a number of years we now see such housing estates in Lelystad, Den Bosch and Port Zeelande. We join voluntarily and create our own perfect living environment where the children can grow-up, completely closed off from the society around them. Voluntary isolation that makes us feel secure!
How this perfect living space will take shape is not yet decided. I am thinking about a changeable content for the cage depending on the exhibition location. I'd like to use examples of 'gated communities' from the surrounding city in each of the exhibitions: a sort of miniature world, marquette-like with possibly photo-material.
